Bible Reading:
The Story of Redemption
I’ve been reading through the Bible this year by using The Daily Grace Co’s ‘Story of Redemption’ books. It is a four volume series. Each day you typically read three chapters of Scripture and the book provides a short commentary on those chapters. The theme of this Bible reading plan is to see how the whole Bible points to Jesus and the glory God gets by redeeming us through the death and resurrection of his Son.
In combination with The Daily Grace books (which can be purchased HERE) I’ve written a ‘newsletter’ for several chunks of Scripture where I do a little extra research or pondering on the things I read. It is a source of accountability for myself but I hope it also adds more depth for you as you read through the Bible. It by no means exhaustive of things read in the text, but merely the things that stuck out to me or things I wondered about.
I have to add this confession in here now that I’ve been struggling to read consistently and am far behind the pace I had originally set. That’s not uncommon— the Enemy wants to keep us from God’s Word. But I also want to avoid making Bible-reading a chore or something to check off a list. I’ve decided I may take breaks here or there to read or study Scripture in other ways and come back to this reading plan.
Therefore, I apologize for the inconsistency of these posts, but hopefully you are able to still find these helpful when you can! I know God doesn’t need me to show you things in his Word— he’s perfectly capable of revealing all that he desires in his own timing and way. I pray that you (and I) all have eyes to see and ears to hear.
I also would recommend to you this reading plan called ABIDE where you read one chapter a day, six days a week. In fact, if you subscribe to the podcast, Pastor Doug will read the chapter to you, and then give you a brief commentary on that chapter. Each ‘episode’ is only 6-10 minutes long so it’s easy to fit into a day or listen to on the way to work. Even as I am going through The Daily Grace book I find myself finding the specific chapter on the podcast to see what the commentary says. It’s another great option to consider!
